Riven
Riven is a specialized fitness tracking application designed exclusively for the Apple Watch, focusing on strength training optimization through automated data collection. Instead of relying on manual input, it utilizes the watch’s internal sensors to monitor motion, heart rate, and rhythm to provide precise insights into your workouts.
View Live
I ensured that critical data—such as live rep counts and velocity loss—remains perfectly scannable at a single glance mid-set, ultimately delivering a cohesive, frictionless, and premium athletic experience.
I orchestrated the end-to-end UI/UX strategy for Riven, translating complex biometric data into an intuitive, distraction-free Apple Watch interface built on a philosophy of disciplined clarity. To anchor the visual architecture, I curated a high-contrast, performance-driven color palette featuring deep, obsidian dark modes to conserve device battery and maintain focus, paired with high-visibility neon accents that immediately highlight real-time metrics and muscle group activation
Problem
Designing for a small Apple Watch screen during heavy weightlifting posed unique UI/UX challenges. Low-contrast dark modes caused severe glare under gym lighting, while standard typography became unreadable mid-set during intense physical exertion. Trying to display real-time rep counts, velocity loss, and heart rate without cluttering the compact display or causing cognitive overload mid-lift was a major obstacle.
Solution
I engineered an OLED-optimized obsidian dark mode paired with high-visibility neon accents to ensure instant readability and battery efficiency. I selected bold, highly legibly spaced sans-serif typography with distinct visual hierarchy so users can scan critical metrics at a glance from an arm’s length. By removing manual navigation and relying on automated motion tracking, I transformed complex biometric data into a zero-friction, glanceable experience built for extreme physical stress.
Glancable Precision
As the Apple Watch UI/UX designer, I established a high-visibility visual hierarchy anchored by deep obsidian dark modes and neon accents. By prioritizing immediate legibility over screen clutter, I made live rep counts and fatigue metrics instantly scannable at an arm’s length. This stark, performance-driven color palette keeps essential data front and center while conserving battery life during long workouts.
Stress-Tested UX
I designed a resilient user journey that adapts dynamically to the physical stress of high-intensity weight training. By replacing complex menu navigation with motion-detected tracking and tactile feedback, I created a zero-distraction interface on the wrist. This tailored approach empowers fitness lovers to monitor muscle fatigue in real time without breaking their workout flow.
